Allow backing up saves for multiple instances of same game

Hi there!

I was wondering if there's any way of using the backup system of RCP for things like having Rayman 1 DOS and Rayman 1 Expert added, since it complains about sharing the same game, so saves would overwrite.
I've tried things like duplicating the folder to separate them, to rename the player, and to move the save from slot 1 to 2.

Using the game with Rayman Control Panel (RCP):

1. Place the Rayman Expert folder in the "Rayman Forever" folder.
2. In RCP, press the + button to add a game and press "Locate" on Rayman 1. Then select the Rayman Expert folder.
3. You can rename the game to Rayman Expert by pressing F2 on it or in the drop-down.
4. It will auto-detect the bin/cue files from the GOG version, but you still need to configure some things. Press the settings button for the game. Then in both the game config and the DOSBox config tabs press the recommended settings buttons and apply changes.

Hi!

Sadly the backup system is currently set up so you can only have one backup per game. So even if you add multiple instances of Rayman 1 then the backup will still treat them as the same game. I'm not really sure how I would easily resolve that since there's nothing really separating the game instances you add other than the name, but that is something you can freely change at any point...

Mmm, I know that it might be different for newer (not DOS at least) games, but some ideas could be:

1. Read if save file is in game folder first, and default folder if there's nothing.
2. Being able to configure in game settings where the actual save is.
3. A game settings tick of "Save is in game folder" to force read there.

I don't know if any make sense to add, but just in case...

The save file location is the same between the original game and Rayman Expert though. That's not the issue. It's that when you create a backup it will copy the save from the game to the backup folder, and since Rayman 1 and Rayman Expert are both considered as "Rayman 1" then backing up one of them will overwrite the backup for the other. So they are two game instances, but they share the same backup.

Mmm, given that's the way it does the backup, what about copying the save + RCP name? So in case you renamed it to "Rayman Expert" it'd be copied as "RAYMAN1.SAV_Rayman_Expert" or something similar 🤔

The problem then is that if you rename the game you won't be able to restore those saves anymore. But maybe I could add like a setting for each game where you can change the "backup name"...

Oh good point, haven't thought about the restore. Maybe either that option you said or a warning of "If you rename the game you will have to re-do the backup", or rename the backup altogether too.
In any case, hope any mix of the ideas were useful for next version, so in case of new mods appear, their backups will work :D
