Crash shortly after start

Describe the bug

I launch darktable, I can see my photos and a bunch of windows opening and closing, modules loading and then after 5-10 seconds it crashes.

It wasn't crashing month ago. It crashes now. I uninstalled it, installed latest version. It still crashes.

• I am using darktable to process my CR2 files to JPG
• darktable is installed on separate SSD, all images on HDD
• it crashes with --disable-opencl
• it doesn't crash with --configdir "/tmp"
• I do not use lua scripts

Did you compile dt? I see a git error in the logs.

It seems to fail when it is trying to process an image thumbnails.

Since it works ok on a new config, I think it will be best to start dt on a new config folder and start adding your images (add to library) in groups to see if a specific image is the problem.

No, I did not compile it myself, simply downloaded the installer from the website. I have no idea why there are git messages, there's no .git folder in installation path.

I renamed %USER%\AppData\Local\darktable to darktable.old and everything works fine as of now with all of my photos added. But I'm afraid of what may happen again that breaks the app.

Can I provide more info to investigate the cause?

@dovaogedot if that's possible it might help to check IMG_8968.CR2 and IMG_8974.CR2 and the according xmp files. you may send them to hanno@schwalm-bremen.de if you want to do so, will check, report and delete them afterwards.

@jenshannoschwalm unfortunately, these .CR2 contain personal information, so I can't send them directly. But I can send their .xmp files.

If this is not enough, I can send only a portion of the images or their metadata or scramble pixels or whatever may be useful.

May I know why these two specific files? I can try to investigate them on my end. I attached another .CR2 file with .xmp from the same import.

I can see all the files from this import being loaded and displayed in lighttable. Sometimes all of them load before crash, sometimes just a portion.

Sorry, I think I actually use lua scripts. I didn't realize that is what 'plugins' are. And there is a git repository inside AppData/Local/darktable/lua on master/c95547caa72f7b136b5192dd19a535da3fbe4e9b.
