Parsing XMP files

I often work on different laptops or workstations to edit my fotos.
The fotos are stored on a central network device.
Currently I've created duplicates of a couple of fotos on a laptop. To continue editing and see the duplicates on another workstation I have to import all of the fotos again to the current database

Describe the solution you'd like

I think refactoring parsing the XMP files on startup can fix this.

Alternatives

I don't have any proper alternative, yet.

Additional context

I'm software developer. But I just have rudimentary knowldeg of GTK and LUA.
If you can give support I would try to solve this isse for my self first.
If it works we can decide to release that feature
