What's the intention with Umami track events?

AFAICT, the implemented track events are set to fire when the the Umami script loads. This seems like it's identical to a page view and redundant. On closer inspection of my data though, they are not 1:1. I get fewer events than page views. I haven't been able to pinpoint yet why that is.

What's the expected behavior and reasoning behind the implemented track events? Thanks!
