Welp, here it is, the Diona Design Doc. The draft of it at least because I know that you know that this ain't ready yet as I have written everything on here only yesterday.

Grammar checks, sanity checks, rule conformity checks with the current and future design guidelines AND just ideas for improvement needed >.<

Just noting that diona nymphs are currently not just an indicator that a diona has been gibbed, as the nymph that contains their brain is controlled by the original player and can regrow after 10 minutes. Although there has been a recent glitch that broke that behaviour.

Unhinged yapping incoming.

There is another feature in their SS13 counterpart which I was unsure of how to fit or describe onto the document.

Special Controllable Nymph

Diona where able to voluntarily seperate a Nymph from themselves, which would be a special NPC. The player would be able to hear and see through this Nymph, as well as take control of it remotely, sort of how an AI can hear and see anything near a connected Holopad. This was done so through the unique hivemind-y language they have called Rootsong, which is said be heard through large distances and even space.

The reason I am having difficulty adding it to the doc is that:

  • I would need to describe how this unique Nymph can only be reabsorbed by the Diona that created it
    • possibly by keeping the action unique to the Nymph since it is a voluntary action to do so?
    • but how would one absorb NPC Nymphs?
    • Would you be able to attempt merging with any Nymph, but if it's not an NPC it would say "This nymph declines joining the Gestalt."?
    • But if this is how it works, what about when a Special Nymph doesn't have a Gestalt to call home anymore by the player leaving the game or getting round removed?
  • This also would clash with another thing I want to be a thing which I will yapp about more below

Second Feature yappaseason DIONA MEGAZORD!!!

I would REALLY REALLY REALLY want it to be a thing that a player controlled Nymph (either from a ghost role or cognizine'd NPC one) can merge with another Diona with each other's consent, becoming one character!!!

Be able to have inner dialogue as well as (speak independently / as the same person). This would be a feature NOT present already present in Aurorastation, but would be more similar to the split personality disorder from TGStation but without the possibility of the alter ego taking over. (unless????)

Imagine talking to a Diona that has aborbed like 4 wild (player controlled) Nymphs, so when you ask them one thing you get 5 different answers at once!!! With MINDTYPES being a thing in Aurora that was mostly just fluff you stuck to determining how you would interact and talk with people, the main Diona could impose house-rules so that only it can speak, but it would deliberate on each sentence with the collective before talking, if everyone uses the same mouth-piece so they interrupt each other or if each can speak concurrently

which I mean yea sure one can just roleplay talking slowly or interrupting yourself or talking with yourself but this is totally not like accents because it's not just a checkmark you enable and boom you talk weird but collaboration of multiple players yep yep

oh and if the player Nymph in the Diona decides to check out because they want to start their own collective (get bored being shizophrenic and want to play independantly) they are free to leave any time though it would take a somewhat lengthy do-after not interruptable by movement yes I am so normal about this if I start talking about hulking Diona Gestalts like the Argus form I will pass out

The donation of a Nymph to help a Diona or delimbed Crew in need is vanishingly rare, but in cases of great trust and need not unheard of.

> For example, if a crew is missing an arm, a diona Nymph can be attached to the stump, which will then work like a normal arm. This Nymph will be in a dormant state, connecting to the host's nervous system to function as a prosthetic. They can be just as easily detached, however, with no harm to the host or the Nymph.

@sowelipililimute I was imagining that a Diona Nymph limb would be the best prosthetic one could get right behind a high-quality cybernetic, but has the major downside of straight up falling off dead when it takes too much damage.

Regarding how easily prosthetics can be acquired and what negative effects it would incur on a character, could this even work with the new medical system that's being worked on?
